St Andrews, Scotland.</p> <p>I am slowly working my way through 700 photos from one of my good friends weddings. I was lucky enough to hop in the van for a quick shoot on the beach in the middle of the day with the official photographer, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/harrietphotography" target="_blank">Harriet</a>, who has done some really great shots of the two of them in the run up to the wedding that I love. I felt very privileged and I kept my distance and let Harriet get on with it while I tried to do my best to get something for myself. I didn’t plan on shooting much when I packed my bags, so I had no flashes or anything other than my camera and a wide-normal. I use a Canon 20d (very old, but sturdy) and a few simple lenses like the Zenitar fisheye which is all manual and actually has a Nikon mount, and a Sigma wide-zoom. Simple set-up as usual - 2 strobes, one with an umbrella coming in from top left, the other with a softbox coming in from the right as a fill. I had been playing a lot of shows and moving house so I just didn’t get around to it, but partly I just lost a bit of enthusiasm for it recently. I don’t know why. My mind feels scattered at the moment. I set up an umbrella above and to the left of me, with another strobe facing the ceiling behind the camera to do a little bounce-fill. Fucked with the colours in PS with a new plug-in I found. We tried a number of techniques for quite a few hours to get this right. It’s difficult to light white-on-white card which has little texture, so positioning my lights was crucial to try to capture Emma’s intricate work, and I found the whole thing frustratingly tedious. But we got there and managed to find something a little different to what we expected to get. Both triggered by radio slaves.
